Why conservation framing costs more

Ordinary framing can quietly destroy the thing inside it.

Acid in ordinary paper and pulp turns yellow and, over years, burns the artwork it touches. Conservation framing uses acid-free matting, backing, tapes and adhesives so that never happens — and UV glazing that stops the light from doing its own slow damage.

Ordinary materials

Acid on all sides

Glass — no UV protection
Wood-pulp mat · acidic
Your artwork — yellowing & burning
Cardboard backing · acidic

Over time the mat and backing leach acid straight into the piece. The damage is permanent.

Conservation materials

Protected for generations

Museum glazing · 98% UV blocked
Acid-free mat
Your artwork — stable & unchanged
Acid-free backing · reversible hinges

Every layer is acid-free and reversible, so the piece can always be safely un-framed later.

Glazing held in stock

Conservation glass & acrylic — 98% UV protection
